Corporate History
HCO, Inc. was established in 1989 in Indianapolis, Indiana, as a single-man firm, operating out of a private residence. In 1990 the firm was incorporated. As a newly established firm, opportunities did not come easily. Most lending institutions could not lend money to the company due to its minority ownership and length of establishment. Times were hard. The principal literally lived in the office, and often the company had to buy equipment and stationery, and meet payrolls, using loans from personal credit cards. Through all these hard times, the company never missed an employee's payroll. These adversities did not deter the principal from persevering; rather, it helped him to understand the pitfalls for failure and rewards for success. This, of course, made him more determined and fueled his desire for quality and perfection.
In these early times, HCO, Inc. was primarily pursuing small-scale, private, and government contracts. Through Mr. Onochie's hard work and dedication, the company has steadily grown in size, and added an office in Gary, Indiana. Prior to the establishment of HCO, Inc., the principal had worked on variouos correctional, residential, and waste management projects while employed by other design firms. Shortly after the establishment of the firm, the company was given the opportunity to renovate the international headquarters for a national, faith-based organization. This opportunity did not come very easily, and the company vowed to complete every job very successfully.
Due to the sound success of this project, the company has steadily been given other opportunities to design or renovate new projects. The company only knows one way to complete a job - "Keep the Client satified, whatever the case." It did not take long before other clients noticed this exceptional creative quality and dedication. HCO, Inc. has been rewarded for its hard work by receiving the 1999 Mayor's Choice Honor Award for Excellence in Design and Development on one of its completed projects. We also received the 2001 Center for Leadership Development Achievement in Professions Award. HCO, Inc. has completed projects ranging in size to over sixteen million dollars in project cost. Recently, the company successfully completed one of the largest projects engaged by one of the nation's leading African-American churches.
A vast majority of our projects are from repeat clients or referrals from satisfied clients. Over the years, HCO, Inc. has broadened its project types to include the following:
Housing Complexes, Institutional Facilities, Aviation Facilities,
Multipurpose Facilities, Educational Buildings, Residential Buildings,
Cultural Buildings, Recreational Facilities, Health Care Facilities,
Correctional Facilities, Athletic Centers, Office Complexes,
Commercial Facilities, Industrial Buildings, and Civic Buildings.
HCO, Inc. believes that the only way to business success is through faith, dedication, honesty, perseverance, and hard work. HCO, Inc. rewards its dedicated staff by giving them generous annual bonuses, and also providing staff luncheons to all employees periodically, etc. This reward system has led to HCO, Inc.'s ability to retain the best architectural staff available. "We may not have the largest number of personnel, but we certainly know that we have the best!" This has been an asset to the company in its pursuit of excellence.
HCO, Inc. is one of the very few firms that can boast of having 100% client satisfaction, and will go the extra mile to maintain this status. Given client satisfaction as yardsticks for quality and excellence, Mr. Onochie believes that HCO, Inc. has all the combined qualifications needed for success and growth recognition.
